See how Lokpal Bill can curb the politicians, Circulate it to create awareness
Existing System System Proposed by civil society
No politician or senior officer ever goes to jail despite huge evidence because Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) and CBI directly come under the government. Before starting investigation or prosecution in any case, they have to take permission from the same bosses, against whom the case has to be investigated. Lokpal at centre and Lokayukta at state level will be independent bodies. ACB and CBI will be merged into these bodies. They will have power to initiate investigations and prosecution against any officer or politician without needing anyone’s permission. Investigation should be completed within 1 year and trial to get over in next 1 year. Within two years, the corrupt should go to jail.
No corrupt officer is dismissed from the job because Central Vigilance Commission, which is supposed to dismiss corrupt officers, is only an advisory body. Whenever it advises government to dismiss any senior corrupt officer, its advice is never implemented. Lokpal and Lokayukta will have complete powers to order dismissal of a corrupt officer. CVC and all departmental vigilance will be merged into Lokpal and state vigilance will be merged into Lokayukta.
No action is taken against corrupt judges because permission is required from the Chief Justice of India to even register an FIR against corrupt judges. Lokpal & Lokayukta shall have powers to investigate and prosecute any judge without needing anyone’s permission.
Nowhere to go – People expose corruption but no action is taken on their complaints. Lokpal & Lokayukta will have to enquire into and hear every complaint.
There is so much corruption within CBI and vigilance departments. Their functioning is so secret that it encourages corruption within these agencies. All investigations in Lokpal & Lokayukta shall be transparent. After completion of investigation, all case records shall be open to public. Complaint against any staff of Lokpal & Lokayukta shall be enquired and punishment announced within two months.
Weak and corrupt people are appointed as heads of anti-corruption agencies. Politicians will have absolutely no say in selections of Chairperson and members of Lokpal & Lokayukta. Selections will take place through a transparent and public participatory process.
Citizens face harassment in government offices. Sometimes they are forced to pay bribes. One can only complaint to senior officers. No action is taken on complaints because senior officers also get their cut. Lokpal & Lokayukta will get public grievances resolved in time bound manner, impose a penalty of Rs 250 per day of delay to be deducted from the salary of guilty officer and award that amount as compensation to the aggrieved citizen.
Nothing in law to recover ill gotten wealth. A corrupt person can come out of jail and enjoy that money. Loss caused to the government due to corruption will be recovered from all accused.
Small punishment for corruption- Punishment for corruption is minimum 6 months and maximum 7 years. Enhanced punishment – The punishment would be minimum 5 years and maximum of life imprisonment.

Dear All, Please go through the details carefully & try to be part of this mission against corruption. Things to know about Anna Hazare and Lok pal Bill-: 1.Who is Anna Hazare? An ex-army man(Unmarried). Fought 1965 Indo-Pak War. 2.What’s so special about him? He built a village Ralegaon Siddhi in Ahamad Nagar district, Maharashtra 3.This village is a self-sustained model village. Energy is produced in the village itself from solar power, biofuel and wind mills. In 1975, it used to be a poverty clad village. Now it is one of the richest village in India. It has become a model for self-sustained, eco-friendly & harmonic village. 4.This guy, Anna Hazare was awarded Padma Bhushan and is a known figure for his social activities. 5.He is supporting a cause, the amendment of a law to curb corruption in India. 6. How that can be possible? He is advocating for a Bill, The Lok Pal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill), that will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians (ministers), bureaucrats (IAS/IPS) accountable for their deeds. 7. It’s an entirely new thing right..? In 1972, the bill was proposed by then Law minister Mr. Shanti Bhushan. Since then it has been neglected by the politicians and some are trying to change the bill to suit their theft (corruption). 8. Oh.. He is going on a hunger strike for that whole thing of passing a Bill ! How can that be possible in such a short span of time? The first thing he is asking for is: the govt should come forward and announce that the bill is going to be passed. Next, they make a joint committee to DRAFT the LOK PAL BILL. 50% government participation and 50% public participation. Bcoz u can’t trust the govt entirely for making such a bill which does not suit them. 9.What will happen when this bill is passed? A LokPal will be appointed at the centre. He will have an autonomous charge, say like the Election Commission of India. In each and every state, Lokayukta will be appointed. The job is to bring all alleged party to trial in case of corruptions within 1 year. Within 2 years, the guilty will be punished. Pass this on n show ur support.. Spread it like fire; Our Nation needs us… Please Contribute… This is not just a forward, it’s the future of our Nation.

Fast and Easy Ways To Improve a Home

Posted by admin On December - 20 - 2010 82 COMMENTS

Home improvement is essential to make a home more conducive to live in and to maintain its structural integrity. All the areas at home need regular maintenance and enhancements to improve its appearance and prevent damage in many areas. Every area must be regularly checked to see what needs to be done to maintain or improve them.

There are different approaches for home improvement. You can either hire professional contractors to handle the improvements or you can do it yourself. Some prefer to do it themselves to save the cost of professional fees and also, so they can apply there own designs and ideas.

For the flooring improvements, an easy yet durable and attractive way to provide enhancement is through installing laminate or vinyl flooring. These types of materials look attractive on floors and are easier to install. Using these types of flooring materials will save you extra costs because they are far cheaper compared to others materials.

For a decorative style on the floor, installing carpet is a great choice, especially in cases where the floor is not in good condition. Carpets are also cheaper compared to installing tiles or hardwood on floors. Another advantage of installing carpets is they are good insulators when heating or cooling a home.

In enhancing the walls, painting is the most common and practical way. Having the right tone or color will set a good mood in the room. Painting is usually preferred when improving the walls because aside from being a simple way to makeover a room, it is also inexpensive. You may also use wallpapers instead of paints, to create a brand new look in a room, especially the bedrooms.

For the windows, you can add style and elegance by erecting curtains and blinds. It also helps to block the sun rays from directly entering into a room which can sometimes causes headaches, eye strain and furniture damage.

To take care of a home and increase the property value, regular maintenance and improvement is vital. By doing so, you only not take care of the property but also make a comfortable place for your family to live.

10 Things to Do When Doubting Yourself

Posted by admin On May - 14 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

As discussed in my last post, negativity and skepticism of success is something to be avoided. However, we are only human and we are bound to encounter negative or doubting thoughts at one time or another.

Now that we have established the importance positive thinking is to your success, I would like to discuss some ways to combat doubtful thinking when it inevitably arises.

I find that I doubt myself quite frequently, and while I know how important it is to be positive, I can’t help but do it anyway.

Since it can’t be helped, it is important to look to stop these negative thoughts as soon as possible. Thus I came up with this list of 10 ways to stop doubting yourself.

1. Consult a loved one

I find this to be my most effective tactic for dealing with doubt. Consulting a loved one who supports and believes in you, yet honest and objective enough to know they genuinely believe you will succeed will definitely help relieve doubts in your mind.

Its not always advice that you seek but just reassurance that you are on the right track, despite any setbacks that you have faced.

I talk to my fiancée when I experience doubt in the success of my business and she usually reassures me that the difficulties I am facing are common ones and that I just have to be persistent and patient. I know she is being honest because she is as equally invested in my success as I am, so I know if she believes I am going in the wrong direction she will tell me.

2. Take a break and do something you love

Sometimes having a bad or not very productive day can effect your mood and make you more pessimistic. Take a break and do something you love and enjoy. It will put you in a better mood and better equip you to tackle the problems you are facing with a renewed sense of optimism.

Take a few hours, or confront the problem the next day. Make sure you are not still thinking about the day’s negative points and that you are approaching your business’ problems with a better mood.

3. Surround yourself with optimistic people

If you have friends, employees or family members that are generally pessimistic, they are the last people you should be around when you are doubting yourself.

If you are finished with work for the day, spend some time with more optimistic people, and maybe even consult them about your doubts (don’t do this too often or you may be labeled as pessimistic). You will find that their positive attitude will relieve you of many of your own doubts.

If you work with some pessimistic employees, try to distance yourself from them for the remainder of the day and instead consult your more optimistic employees.

Make sure that you approach your pessimistic employees later, when you are in a good and optimistic mood and make sure to help them establish a positive attitude. Remember, you want an encouraging atmosphere in the entire office.

4. Determine if your difficulties are normal ones

Sometimes the doubts you are having are the result of common difficulties that all businesses in your industry or age experience. Maybe you are experiencing growing pains, selling difficulties or difficulties finding funding.

These are all problems that newer businesses face. Maybe you are experiencing seasonal slowdowns or customer needs are shifting. This could be experienced throughout your industry.

If this is the case, you are not alone and your difficulties are normal ones. Do some quick research to see if these difficulties are normal for businesses in your industry or age group and see what your competitors/peers have done or are doing to deal with the situation.

5. Ask yourself if you are blowing things out of proportion

I do this a lot. Many people have a tendency to blow a problem out of proportion and think that it is a bigger issue than it actually is.

Recognizing that this might be the case with your present doubts will relieve some uncertainty in your mind and help you confront the situation more effectively. This often goes hand in hand with consulting a loved one since you often may need an objective set of eyes to point it out to you.

6. Fix what you are specifically doubting

You may have general doubts about the success of your business, but what specifically is bothering you about it? Is it key employees? A marketing campaign you are uncertain about? Advertising mediums?

Drill down and determine the source of your uncertainty and try and fix it. Sometimes just realizing what exactly is making you uncertain is enough to make you feel better. You may not even need to fix it since it the issue turns out to be smaller than you realized.

7. Consult a mentor or another business owner you know

Mentors are great to have. They have likely already traveled the path that you are treading now and will give you great advice and warn you of difficulties ahead. They will also remember the doubts and difficulties they faced and will be able to tell you how threatening they can be and how they can be addressed.

Similar holds true to other business owners you know. They have either progressed down the same road already or are doing it at the same time as you.

Knowing that other entrepreneurs are facing the same difficulties may help you feel better and help you realize that your problems are a lot more common.

8. Look at the successes of others

Looking at your successful competitors could discourage you, or you can use their history as an opportunity to learn from. They may have started out as a very humble, small company like yours. This alone can help you realize that you have the potential to grow this large.

You don’t have to look at your competitors though. Apple Computer was started in a garage, Google was created by two college students in a dorm and both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were college dropouts.

All of these successful companies/business owners have humble beginnings themselves. Don’t let your humble beginnings discourage you from thinking that you have the ability to grow to be just as large.

9. Look at what your competitors are doing

This is different than that last one. Number 8 addressed what your competitors and other successful businesses did. This is about what your successful competitors are doing now.

You larger, established competitors have an extensive budget and a lot more consumer data than you. You don’t need the same. How they are marketing and positioning products are a result of these massive budgets and years of accumulated consumer data.

Knowing this, take notes on their tactics and take on a similar advertising strategy. You will save time and money and you will enjoy the same successes as they have (relative to the size of your business).

If you found yourself doubting an ad you are going to run, or a product you are going to launch, seeing what your competition is doing can either ease your fears or assist you in showing what it is you need to adjust.

10. Get your customer’s opinions or do market research

If you are in doubt about an advertisement, or your product’s ability to meet market demands, ask one of your good customers their opinion. Your good customers will be more than happy to advise you on what they do and don’t like about your product, if they would buy a new one that is launching or if they do or don’t like an ad that you have run.

If you are just starting out and don’t have any customers, do some market research. AdWords for Dummies author Howie Jacobson advises advertisers to consult blogs, check Google Trends and user groups to see what it is customers demand and what they react to.

Bonus: Read an inspirational book

Inspirational books are designed to do just that: inspire you. They are there to make you feel more energized, confident, optimistic and less doubtful. If you have one, pick it up and read it. If you don’t, pick one up from the library or buy one (you can always reference it later in this case).

Tim Ferriss, author of The 4 Hour Work-Week recommends the book The Magic of Thinking Big, by, David Schwartz. I have bought it, but have yet to read it (when I do I will post a review). However, going by Tim’s review and what I have read about it, it sounds like a great read for those who are doubting their business’ ability to grow.

Do you have any tactics you use for stopping doubts? Post them in the comments below!

Terror suspect Rana denies link to 26/11 attacks

Posted by noddy On November - 30 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

CHICAGO: Terror suspect Tahawwur Hussain Rana, under investigation for possible links to 26/11, has categorically denied any involvement in the

Mumbai attacks, his lawyer said and asserted that the Pakistani-Canadian “harbours no ill-will” against Indians.

The statement was the first response from Rana’s side after suspicions arose that he and Pakistani-origin US citizen David Coleman Headley, arrested by the FBI for plotting attacks in India at the behest of Lashkar-e-Taiba, could have links to the Mumbai terror strikes.

“Mr Rana categorically denies involvement in the tragic events in Mumbai of November 26, 2008,” Rana’s lawyer Patrick Blegen said in a statement here.

“He harbours no ill-will against the people of India and continues to have close family ties to the country. In recent years, Mr Rana’s career has been geared toward assisting members of the Hindu and other communities to become legalised and established in the United States and Canada,” he said.

While US authorities have accused Rana and Headley of plotting attacks in India and Denmark, Indian officials are investigating their involvement in 26/11 attacks. However, so far there has been no evidence in this regard.

US President Barrack Obama is dispatching a high-level FBI team to India in a week to share “all details” of its probe into the plans and network of Headley and Rana, National Security Adviser M K Narayanan said on Sunday.

Rana’s bail hearing is scheduled for December 2 when he would offer more than a million dollars in bond security.

Blegen said witnesses would testify about Rana’s clean record and reputation as a businessman as the defence seeks to free him from jail. “They will testify he is not a risk of flight, has ties to the community, that he is regarded as an honest and a trustworthy businessman and has no record whatsoever,” the lawyer said.

“Mr Rana has worked hard and travelled extensively to attempt to build his business. The Indian communities in Chicago, New York and Toronto are a testament to his hard work,” the statement said.

A city resident for the last 10 years, Rana owns an immigration business that has offices in Mumbai He also owns a slaughterhouse near here and a grocery store on the city’s predominantly Indian-Pakistani neighbourhood Devon Avenue.

‘On November 26, I realised just how much I love Mumbai’

Posted by noddy On November - 26 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Bombay is the city I was born in. It became Mumbai in 1997. It is one of the most versatile and vibrant cities in the world, where change is a

constant. I love this city and feel everyone should visit it once in their lives. It’s my favourite place in the whole world. But on November 26, 2008, this city changed completely right in front of my eyes. It changed from being just my favourite city to my dear home. Every Mumbaikar changed from being just another inhabitant to being part of a big family. I realised just how much I love Mumbai.

On November 26 last year, this home of mine was held to ransom by a group of terrorists. It was shrouded in over 60 hours of darkness. My home was under siege and I felt captured, distraught and helpless. More so because I happened to be at one of the 11 locations that the terrorists had attacked — the Taj Mahal hotel at the Gateway of India.

NATO nations to jointly offer 5,000 troops for Afghanistan: UK

Posted by noddy On November - 26 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

LONDON: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said today that several NATO nations will jointly offer 5,000 more troops for Afghanistan, as London

and Washington push allies to take on a greater share of the war burden.

Brown wrote to NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to confirm that many of 10 other nations consulted by British officials in recent weeks have pledged to send reinforcements.

“Following these meetings and contacts, I am now optimistic that a majority of these countries will indeed make available increased numbers of troops, and more police trainers and civilian support,” Brown wrote in his letter.

So far, Slovakia has offered 250 extra soldiers, Georgia has pledged between 700 and 1,000 soldiers, and South Korea has said it would send “several hundred” to protect its reconstruction teams.

The United States, Britain, Canada and the Netherlands have long grumbled that many NATO partners — chiefly Germany and France — have failed to take on a fair share of combat duties.

The US has pressed NATO and other allies for between 5,000 and 7,000 additional non-US troops.

Canadian and Dutch, however, troops are both scheduled to begin pulling out of Afghanistan.

Cost of keeping Kasab alive: Rs 31 crore and counting

Posted by noddy On November - 26 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

MUMBAI: Guess how much India is spending on keeping the sole surviving 26/11 Pakistani terrorist alive and healthy in prison? Over Rs 30 crore

and counting.

As India observes the first anniversary of the terror attack on Mumbai, the cash-strapped Democratic Front government in Maharashtra has so far spent a staggering Rs 31 crore, or nearly Rs 85 lakh per day, to keep the 21-year-old terrorist from the Pakistani town of Faridkot safe and secure enough to stand trial.

Incidentally, the state is set to wind up its presentation of evidence in the ongoing trial in the special court at Arthur Road jail on Thursday. However, the trial, which began in May, is not likely to finish soon – special public prosecutor Ujwal Nikam reckons it will take another two-three months to come to completion.

“The state’s debt has crossed the Rs 1.85 lakh crore mark. But of course, where security of the state and the country is concerned, we don’t discuss the financial situation,” a senior government official told TOI. Of course, the Rs 31 crore figure is strictly unofficial since the government is wary of letting out any information on Kasab.

On the post-terror attack expenditure, the official said, following the directives of the Centre, besides procuring weapons for emergency use, vehicles and equipment, two special cells were created inside Arthur Road jail and JJ hospital.

“There was a huge expenditure on the construction of a special cell inside the high-security Arthur Road jail. It has been designed in such a manner that even if a truck laden with explosives were to ram into it, the cell would not be dented. Such safeguards are essential to protect Kasab’s life – and to establish Pakistan’s involvement in the attack,” he said.

Besides the special prison cell, another cell was created inside JJ Hospital for Kasab’s treatment.

“We spent nearly Rs 1 crore for the creation of a bullet-proof cell on the JJ Hospital premises. But he was never taken there, instead, doctors were summoned to the Arthur Road jail, whenever Kasab had a health problem,” he said. Incidentally, Kasab, who was wounded before being captured, has been attended to by anywhere between 16-24 doctors for his various ailments in the past year.

The official pointed out that there was also a huge outgo on deployment of central forces to guard the Arthur Road jail and towards payment of fees for the public prosecutor and lawyers appearing for Kasab.

“It’s a costly affair, but we had no option,” he said.

Meanwhile, home minister R R Patil, who was asked to resign, following public anger over police inaction during 26/11, has promised full security to the city on Thursday. “Nothing should happen tomorrow,” Patil, whose reappointment in the new government raised quite a few eyebrows, said on Wednesday. What may have added to his confidence is the fact that an NSG battalion with 258 commandos has already landed in the city from Delhi as a security-boosting measure.

Patil also told TOI that while 15,000 police vacancies had been filled in the last year, another 21,000 posts were still vacant.

US camp in Iraq was al-Qaida breeding ground, say ex-inmates

RAMADI: Iraq’s Camp Bucca, the US-run jail where around 100,000 prisoners were kept over six years, was a breeding ground for the al-Qaida terror

network, according to police and former inmates.

Bucca, located in an isolated desert north of the border with Kuwait, was a school for scores of Takfiris, or Sunni extremists who usually ended up in Al-Qaeda, said Abu Mohammed, freed in 2008 after 26 months behind its bars.

“The illiterate and straight-forward people were the easiest prey for indoctrination,” said the 32-year-old resident of Ramadi, the former insurgency stronghold 100 kilometres west of Baghdad.

Opened after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, Camp Bucca was the biggest detention centre in Iraq housing up to 22,000 prisoners in 2007.

At its closing on September 17 this year, there were only 8,000 inmates who were transferred to Camp Cropper in Baghdad and Camp Taji, north of the capital.

“The two suicide bombers and the majority of suspects detained after the twin bombings of August 19 against the foreign affairs and finance departments, which killed 95, were released shortly before from Camp Bucca,” a senior interior ministry official told AFP.

Captain Brad Kimberly, spokesman for the US prisons authority in Iraq, told AFP that “to date, we’ve not received any evidence suggesting a former detainee may be involved in either attack.”

Pak president Zardari received millions of dollars as bribe in French submarine deal: French daily

Posted by noddy On November - 13 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

PARIS/ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari allegedly received millions of dollars in kickbacks for the purchase of three French

submarines for the Pakistani Navy in 1994, a French daily has reported.

Citing documents acquired by it, the daily ‘Liberation’ in Tuesday’s edition claimed Zardari received $4.3 million in kickbacks from the sale of three Agosta-90 submarines for 825 million euros (currently $1.23 billion).

In addition, the daily said investigators believed that the non-payment of the full amount of the agreed kickbacks may have led to the deaths of 11 French nationals in a 2002 terror attack in the port city of Karachi.

In Islamabad, a spokesman of the government has taken serious exception to the claims made by the daily.

The spokesman said the purchase of equipment by the Armed Forces of Pakistan is done through a proper competitive process under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence.

Zardari was neither the President nor the Prime Minister nor the Defence Minister when the submarines were purchased, the spokesman said.

The then ‘Admiral’ responsible for this purchase was investigated by the Accountability Bureau but no allegation of misdoing could be established by the investigation authorities against Zardari, the spokesman added.

police station nearby in Bannu, killing 20 people, including seven personnel of the spy agency.

The strike on the spy agency overseeing Pakistan’s anti-terror campaign and on the police station left 85 people wounded and came as 30,000 troops were pressing Taliban and foreign militants in their stronghold in lawless Waziristan.

A suicide attacker rammed his explosives-laden truck into the gate of the ISI office within the cantonment of Peshawar city at 6.40 am, killing at least 12 people and injuring 60 others, police said.

The bomber’s car was packed with about 200 kg of explosives, IGP Malik Naveed Khan told reporters.

Though the well-armed guards opened fire on the car to stop it, the attacker rammed his vehicle into the three-storey building reducing it to rubble, police said.

The blast brought down the front and middle portion of the building and its sound was so loud it could be heard up to 20 km away. Bodies lay strewen on the road and police fired in the air to keep the onlookers away till the bodies were taken to hospital.

Just an hour later, a second suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden mini truck near the main police station at Bakakhel in Bannu district of NWFP, killing eight persons and injuring 25 others.
