Cong accuses Advani of misleading people in Swiss bank issue
Lucknow (PTI): Accusing BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani of raking up “baseless issues almost every day”, the Congress on Tuesday said he was trying to mislead people by claiming that black money to the tune of crores of rupees was deposited in certain Swiss banks.
“BJP leader L K Advani said that black money worth several lakhs of crores of rupees is deposited in Swiss banks and it should be brought back to India. I would like to question him about the source of this information. This is nothing but an attempt to mislead the people,” Congress party general secretary Digvijay Singh told reporters here.
“In the six-years of NDA rule, what was Advaniji doing on this issue,” Mr. Singh said questioning the senior BJP leader’s claim.
“He said that 5,000 billion crore Indian rupees is deposited in Swiss banks. All these facts are fake. He is so desperate to become the prime minister that he rakes up baseless issues almost every day,” Mr. Singh said.
On the issue of Mr. Advani challenging Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for a debate, Mr. Singh said, “I would like to ask him that what had he been doing in the Parliament in the last five years. Was a debate on nuke deal not a (good enough) debate.”
“Why should a debate not be held with Mayawati, Ram Vilas Paswan, Lalu Prasad and Sharad Yadav. After all, they all are claimants of the Prime Minister’s post,” he quipped.
